My fellow Legionnaires and Post 152 family,
As the first quarter of the 2023-2024 Legion year winds down, I wanted to post an update on some of the things happening at Post 152 in the coming months.
As I posted a few days ago, our Early Bird dinner is coming up on October 14th. All early bird renewals get a free meal, so if you haven't renewed yet, you have until close of business Saturday to renew your membership and qualify as an early bird. We're looking pretty good so far this year on membership, but we could be better. If you haven't renewed for 2024 yet, don't wait! Renew now!
On October 21st, the Auxiliary will be holding a holiday food drive. In exchange for bringing items needed on their list, you can get a free spaghetti dinner. Keep an eye out for flyers with the details.
Saturday October 28th will be our Post Adult Halloween Party. More details will be posted in the coming weeks, but there will be a costume contest with prizes and we're asking everyone to bring a dish to share.
We will be having several events come November. Our post will be hosting the annual 15th District Past Commanders & Past Presidents banquet on Saturday, November 4th. This is a ticketed event, so please see your entity's leadership to get your ticket and to RSVP.
On Friday, November 10th, we will be holding our annual Veteran's Day Ceremony with the Sickles High School JROTC at 9 am. On Saturday, November 11th, we will be participating in the Town and Country Veterans Day Parade. There will also be a free cookout to follow at the post after the parade. We are currently looking for volunteers for the cookout, so please let us know if you can help!
On Thanksgiving Day, the Auxiliary will be hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner from 2-5 PM. If you would like to help, please let them know! As in years past, any donations collected will go to support our annual holiday Christmas baskets for needy families in our community.
In addition to all those events listed above, we are still having our weekly Wednesday night dinners, bingo, and Saturday steak shoots, and we need volunteers! It takes a lot of work to plan and prepare dinners and there are a small number of people who usually handle them, and we don't want those volunteers getting burned out. Please, if you are able, consider volunteering a couple hours of your time to step up and take on a dinner. Come out and learn how to run bingo or steak shoot. You won't be alone! We just need help to keep them going.
In closing, I ask that you remember why we are all here. We're here to honor and support our veterans and their families. Your membership was earned either by your own service, or the service of your family members, so let's all be members who honor that service and sacrifice. Be considerate of each other and our staff, and make this post an environment that all can feel comfortable and welcomed.
Yours in service,
Michael Sherman
Commander

September is almost over! Have you renewed your Legion family membership yet!?
Your membership in the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion goes to support our programs that help veterans and their families, so don't delay!
Our Early Bird dinner will be Saturday October 14th. Anyone who renewed prior to the end of this month will receive a free meal! ($10 for non-early birds). There will be a sign up sheet in the lounge towards the end of next week. Please sign up before Oct 11th. If you're not on that list, we can't guarantee you'll have a meal!
You must show your 2024 membership card with the early bird stamp to receive your free meal. If you already have your 2024 card and do not have the stamp, contact your membership chair to get it updated.
If you haven't renewed yet, no worries! You have until next Saturday to renew! RENEW NOW!!

You may have seen the flyers or pictures floating around, promoting the American Legion's "BE THE ONE" campaign. But what is "Be the One"?
The program will destigmatize asking for mental health support, provide peer-to-peer support and resources, and educate everyone on how they can Be the One.
Today, the No. 1 issue facing the veteran community is suicide, according to the National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report. It is estimated that between 17 and 22 veterans or servicemembers take their lives each day. That’s more than 6,000 annually. The rate of suicide for veterans is more than 50% higher than that of non-veteran adults. As the Global War on Terrorism continues, there will be more veterans facing mental-health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder.
At its core, The American Legion is activating a national platform to reduce the rate of veteran suicide. The Be the One campaign will:

There is an unauthorized “My Legion App” currently available from the Android and Apple stores. The app was created by an organization identified as “Giant Killer”. Please do not engage with this seller as they do not have permission to use our likeness.
Please do warn Legionnaires and Posts the application is a scam and is charging a monthly fee. National has no plans to produce a fee-for-service app. We are actively working on a mobile application focused on helping local Posts and individual members.
When our official app is ready, it will be announced through official Legion channels and will be identified with The American Legion as the “seller” once published to the stores.
Below is a screenshot of the unauthorized application as it is presented within the stores.
